very highly spoken of by his superior officers and who has given instruction in Electrical Science at the Technical Institute. He has tendered his resignation, with effect from the 31st. instant and lir. Perkins informs me that he is about to take up an appoint -ment with a salary of £300 per month and free quarters. He would however prefer to remain in the Government Service.

I recommend that he be offered an appointment

on the following terms:-

(a). Salary at the rate of £330 per annum, payable in accord-

-ance with the Regulations on the subject.

(b). Conveyance allowance, 830 per month.

(c). Engagement terminable by a month's notice on either

side.

His salary for next year might be charged to

the votes for Maintenance of Telephones and Baintenance of Build-

-ings, from the latter of which the cost of maintaining fans and

lifts, &c., is at present defrayed. In following years, provision

could be made in the Establishment Estimates.
